Words For My Daughter

As Liv grows and reflects on the type of mother that I am to her my wish is that she will confidently express how I will always support her in whatever direction she chooses. The precious nature of a Mother Daughter relationship is never for me to dominate her… I am constantly learning from her and educating her with what I am knowledgable on. Daily I’m researching to answer her many questions because I never want to give her false info. Facts only over here! (so routinely I will tell her ” let me look that up so I can best answer you”) Her inquisitive nature and patience with me as I gather all the tools she requires to grow humbles me and encourages me daily. I love being a mommy and I am blessed to do life with my little human!

WeLove Meaningful Books!

Thrifting is life! Many days along side my grandmother and parents as a child I was constantly in a thrift store or at a yard sale looking for unique items. As I got older and initiated these excursions myself I’ve gone through phases of items that I was targeting. Now that my little person is here ,and especially because I homeschool I literally get a high from the amazing learning tools we have acquired as well as the beautiful books that we get to add to Liv’s library. I spend quite a bit of time digging through shelves inspecting books for perfection. Making sure they are odor free and free of any markings or rips…. Most importantly I seek out books with educational value, special interest, meaningful content as well as characters that visually represent our family.

Each book pictured above was in pristine condition with excellent content and for the entire set I spent about $2 *pops collar and does a little dance* “In God’s Name” highlights the quest for everyone to connect to the most high, while many may call the creator a different name the book concludes with everyone acknowledging that they are all a reflection of God and each name can be applied and at that point of unity they truly had reached a place of communion not just with each other but with the most high as well.

I scored an awesome Spike Lee Joint guys! I’m pretty sure I squealed and clicked my heels right there in the aisle. “Giant Steps to Change the World” highlights the accomplishments of courages thinkers and doers of the past and present while challenging children to develop their own plan to impact the world!

The Kwanzaa book I purchased is full of history, activities and recipes. We are currently learning about animal and insect life cycles so the Caterpillar to Butterfly book was a timely addition and lastly “Just for Today”  is a fun story of parental bears that abandon their stressful adult chores to simply enjoy the day with their cubs… no yelling… No shoes just fun and love.

What are you reading to your little ones?

WeLove Positive Role Models

Last month I introduced Liv to The Gabby Douglass Story , and she has since watched it a record breaking amount of times. Literally backtoback and totally engaged… To the point the story as well as the lines can easily be recalled. I’m happy I found such a awesome story on Netflix of a amazingly hardworking and strong young girl! Gabby’s work ethic in the gym as well as her mothers sacrifice for her children are heartwarming and motivating. (There are some pretty good songs in the movie as well!) Now when Liv goes to gymnastics she is even more enthusiastic about pushing herself to get closer to the achievements of her role model Gabriel Douglass.

WeLove Liv: Valentine’s 2015

The most loving girl deserves to know just how special she is so of course crafting her Valentines Day excitement had me squealing along the way! Here are a few highlights….
I’m gonna say enjoying a game at Georgetown University cheering on the girls basketball team is very much “our thing” at this point! Uber cold out but our princess was adamant about attending

For the first time we enjoyed a Build & Grow Workshop at Lowes and it was a good time! My handy little princess was given a work kit to create a heart photo holder, an apron with personalized name card, pair of goggles. Upon completion she received a certificate and a patch for her handy work. Needless to say…. We shall return for upcoming workshops

Momma is all about a curly headed brown princess!

Young Money… Mommy to a Mogul!

So I am over the moon thrilled for Liv to be participating Lemonade Day DC! We are big on independence and equipping her with the tools necessary to flourish into her greatness. This opportunity for children to get the tools needed to own and operate a business of their own is just perfect and I’m excited to see the growth in my daughter as she goes through this program!

WeLove to Stay Busy!

Ahhhh I Love these faces!
A reap of our weekend….
There are tons of sports games going on and last week we enjoyed a basketball game at Georgetown University! That night was freezing out but Liv had a blast cheering the ladies on! Girl Power indeed!
Next up the Baltimore Aquarium had a “Pay What You Want Day” which we obviously had to attend! The savings were well worth the crowded visit! After enjoying the aquarium we tried a new restaurant right next door called “Family Meal” located at 621 East Pratt Street. Literally this place was like a visit with your cool accommodating friends that don’t have kids, but open up their home to your family as if they do lol. The restaurant is really nice perfect for family or a cute date! Our favorite was the pot pie fritters we enjoyed ,definitely worth shouting about! Everyone who works there is kind and knowledgeable which is obviously coming from the top of there leadership. If your into (which I am) a good drink or locally grown items they have you covered! The cherry on the top that led us there was that they offered a “pay what you want” meal option on the menu coinciding with the aquarium event.
We hung out with the coolest sister/ aunt ever.
Liv was a real party animal and got the face paint to show for it!

Winternational was a gathering of many embassies, opening up there customs and treats to us this winter season. Liv got her first henna tattoo and enjoyed dancing to the live music! It’s always wonderful to experience new cultures without even getting your passport stamped!

This was the first year I have ever celebrated Kwanzaa! I feel so blessed to be sharing these principles with my child early on connecting with a community of like minds on various levels!
Eagerly anticipating 2015 and beyond!

Can He Get Much Higher!?

This weekend we enjoyed a great first visit to the College Park Aviation Museum! The museum had a small entrance fee but especially with the Holiday event they were hosting it was well worth it! This event was full of crafts, an amazing balloon artist, tattoos. The museum has air planes to get a hands on experience as well as flight attire to play dress up with and lots of other nooks and crannies of amazement! And the biggest moment of the day was Santa being flown into the museum by police helicopter! Big Fun and Loads of Holiday Cheer!IMG_4216.JPG

Get Crafty

*Egg Carton Bingo
This wonderful craft from Noodle & Doodle is perfect for a holiday road trip
What You Will Need:
1 cardboard 12-egg carton
Old magazines
Pictures printed of various things you might see on your road trip
Small tasty treats
Glue stick

How To:
Tear up lots of colored pieces from magazines.
Using a glue stick, decorate the front of your egg box with the colored pieces. You can make a picture, or just make it colorful.
Cut out different small pictures of items you might see from your seat in the car while on a road trip. You should have 12 pictures, one for each section of the egg carton.
Using a glue stick, adhere each picture onto one of the sections in your egg carton.
With the egg carton open, place your treats into the top portion of the carton.
You are now ready to play Egg Box Bingo. All you need now is to go on a road trip!
To play Egg Box Bingo: When you spot something outside the car window that is on one of the pictures, put a tasty treat in the corresponding egg holder. When you have spotted everything in one row – either a short line up or a long line across -shout “Bingo!” Then you get to eat the tasty treats in those rows. Or you can play full house bingo: Only when you have spotted every picture in your egg box can you shout “Bingo!” and then you get to eat all the tasty treats.

*Paper Plate Dream Catcher
What You Will Need:
2 sturdy paper plates, with identical large circles cut out of the middle of each plate
1 piece of orange net, cut large enough to cover the hole in the plate
Items for weaving (string, yarn, straws, ribbon, etc.)
Feathers
Stapler
Tape

How To:
Place the orange net over the large hole in one paper plate. Staple the net in place. (You can use tape instead, but it may not be as strong a hold.)
Weave the string, yarn, straws, ribbon and orange through the orange net. Adhere the ends of each item to the rim of the plate with tape. Repeat with as much stuff as you wish to weave.
Using tape, secure 3 feathers to hang down from the bottom of the plate.
Place the other paper plate over the first one and secure with tape. (This gives the catcher a nice finish.)
Hang above your bed to catch your dreams!
